The operations of Liikenneturva are defined by law
Administration
Liikenneturva is an organisation governed by public law and its activities have been outlined by law.
The top-ranking administrative body of Liikenneturva is the General Assembly of the Central Organisation which takes place twice a year. The membership of the General Assembly consists of representatives of member organisations. The General Assembly, among other duties, confirms the financial statements of Liikenneturva and elects seven representatives from its membership to serve in the Board of Directors.
Operatively speaking, the key entity is the 12-member Board of Directors (Board Members). The Board e.g. approves the operative plan and budget, monitors finances and makes initiatives.
In addition to the seven representatives from member organisations, the Board includes representation from the Ministry of Communications and Transport, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior. The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the Government of Finland.
Liikenneturva funding
The operations are financed by funds collected via traffic insurance fee in accordance with the Law on Traffic Insurance. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health decides the actual amount annually. Liikenneturva has some income acquisition of its own, mainly relating to material sales and training offerings. There is also some sponsor funding and donations directed at Liikenneturva.
Liikenneturva is a national organisation
Liikenneturva’s main office is located in Helsinki and the organisation has 12 regional offices around Finland. There are 53 employees, of whom 19 work in the regional offices. In addition to the permanent staff, Liikenneturva has its own trainer network.
The regional offices carry out Liikenneturva’s projects and basic duties in their respective operative areas. In addition, they can launch their own regional projects according to region-specific needs.
Liikenneturva’s regional offices, working in co-operation with the local authorities, support the realisation of the national traffic safety plan throughout the country according to the set objectives.
